Softonic review

A VR fighting and puzzle game

Final World drops you in a reasonably large city that is mostly made up of ruins. You are given brilliant character movements, character-design details, and semi-original weapons. Your job is to complete tricky puzzles and destroy poorly-designed and underdeveloped enemies.

Beware of the trailer

Final World has some really terrible trailers out there. If you are looking information on the game, then checks reviews like this or people playing the game. Many of the trailers make this game look like a simulation game where you explore old ruins, and others make it look like an epic fighting game. It is neither a simulation of a city, nor is it epic because hardcore gamers can finish this game in an evening. Your job is to run around the well-designed city, battle a few enemies and solve a few puzzles. The way the game is put together is very clever, especially when you see the character movements and available actions. Sadly, the enemies are underdeveloped, which means you will see a lot of slashes, but no damage, and you will see a lot of enemies falling over when dead rather than doing anything interesting. For example, you remember in Fallout New Vegas where you shoot a guy in the eyes, and he runs around trying to shoot, but he ends up shooting the wall while you pick off his legs with a sword? That sort of thing doesn't happen in this game. This game is more like playing a Mario 3D game when it comes to how the enemies act, look, take damage, and die.

A good game that could be a great game

Final World feels like something that the developers started and are hoping to add to. They have added so much detail and work into building their city, but the amount of playable content upon release was pretty low. Did they run out of budget, or is this the base game for something that is going to be extended and patched over the years? There is plenty to hate about Final World, especially since it was released with very little content. However, it is one of the few VR games where the developers have remembered the benefits of building a console game, in that it doesn't rely on the same fighting mechanics as other games. For example, you can fire your sword off your arm, and then control it while it is in the air. That is something that only exists in video games, and yet most VR developers keep forgetting that they can have players fight with more than a sword or a gun. Final World is not great, but it is far from bad.

PROS

  • The ruins in the city are great
  • Original weapons and attack behaviour

CONS

  • Very little content when it was first released
  • Enemies are very underdeveloped
